The Death of Hope

Our language has a ton of 4 letter words
Many are dirty, some of them absurd, but
There’s one that many seem to forget
It’s sentiment lofty, no room for regret

That word is ‘hope’, and it comes in short supply
Our world in despair, often seems like a lie
The future’s uncertain, many people not working
Political leaders turn a blind eye, but

Let us not believe it’s the death of hope
Helping one another, where help is needed most
A need to achieve in this new world conceived, please

There’s no time for sorrow, no time for games
We’re washing our hands of political stains
Problems, solutions, daily ablutions
Warring factions taking down names

Our politicians liars, rattling their sabres
Tweeting to twats, hate feeding haters
The time is now, no matter how
Victory to the fruits of our labours, but

In a world upended, our economy suspended
Destitute, starving in the streets
Our rent’s overdue, we got holes in our shoes
Those values soon become obsolete, but I tell you

With little to trust, our hunger unjust
